A Look at Super Eagles Opponents in the just concluded 2023 AFCON Draw , Head-Head and Records.


The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group A with hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.


The draw took place on Thursday night in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire — where the competition will be hosted from January 13 to February 11, 2024.



In the qualifiers, Nigeria finished top of its group with 15 points, scoring 22 goals, including a 16-0 win on aggregate against Sao Tome and Principe.

Cote d’ Ivoire

Ivory Coast is one of Africa's major forces in the Africa Cup of Nations. Ivory Coast has won the 1992 tournament, Ivory Coast has been runner up of the tournament, losing the tournament in 2006 and 2012. The 2015 tournament was the last tournament to date Ivory Coast has won.


Cote d’ Ivoire are hosting the Africa Cup of Nations for a second time, they hosted the tournament for the first time in 1984.


When the Cote d’Ivoire hosted the AFCON in 1984 eight nations participated five of those countries will be joining the hosts again they are Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana and Nigeria. Missing out are Malawi and Togo. 


Cote d’Ivoire have appeared in four AFCON Finals in 1992, 2006, 2012 and 2015 and in 480 minutes of play in AFCON finals have failed to produce a single goal they won on penalties after extra time in 1992 and 2015 and lost on penalties after extra time in 2006, 2012 with all four games ending 0-0.

Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea have competed in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, two as hosts.


Equatorial Guinea’s best result in the Africa Cup of Nations is a fourth-place finish in the 2015 edition at home.

Guinea Bissau

The Guinea-Bissau national football team represents Guinea-Bissau in men's international association football and it is controlled by the Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau, The team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cups but qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations four times, making their debut in 2017.

Nigeria were last crowned Cup of Nations winners in 2013 in South Africa and the Ivory Coast succeeded them two years later in Equatorial Guinea.


In Other Groups, the seven times winner and the most successful nation in the Cup's history, Egypt and Blackstars of Ghana will slug it out in group B alongside Cape Verde and Mozambique, while Defending champions Senegal, was placed in group C with Guinea, The Gambia and five times Champions Cameroon.


The two time African nations Cup winner Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Angola are in group D, and Group E consists of Tunisia, Mali, South Africa and Namibia.

2022 FIFA World Cup Semi finalist and 2030 FIFA World Cup Co-host Morocco, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Tanzania complete the final group in group F.


The tournament is expected to be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
