A look into Nigerian Players in the opening games of the UCL, Europa and Conference league


It is no longer news that Nigerian Players are making us proud all over the world Ranging from Defenders to Forwards.

We decide to take a look at how Nigerian Players performed in the Opening games of the Uefa Champions League, Europa league and Conference week during the mid-week.


First on our list is

Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan)

The Nigerian Forward was featured for 61 minutes as he made his UCL debut for AC Milan against a very good Newcastle (England) side.

Although the game ended in a goalless draw in Milan, Chukwueze was Phenomenal in the night

He had two (2) total shots, 14 accurate passes out of 20 total passes , created a chance and was only dispossessed four (4) times throughout his time on the pitch. He had a total of 36 touches on the pitch.


2 Peter Olayinka (FK Crvena Zvezda)

Although his team lost to the defending champion Man city by a score of 3:1 in the Etihad stadium, The Nigerian Forward came on in the 68th minutes.

He had a Total of 10 touches , his pass success was 71%, he had 3 recoveries and was fouled once.


3 Alhassan Yusuf (Royal Antwerp)

His team were white washed by Barcelona in The Camp Nou but the Nigerian Midfielder made his mark.

He was brought on in the 60th minutes when the score was 4 nil but it was a remarkable and dream come true night for him as he always fancy to play in the Camp Nou Stadium.

He had a total of 21 touches , was dispossessed once and had 100% tackles succeeded.

The score ended in 5 nil in favour of Barcelona.


4 Zaidu Sanusi (Porto)

Although the Nigerian left back played just 45 minutes as he was sub out before the start of the second half, having picked up a knock towards the end of the first half. He was a very important player for his team as his team won 3:1 away from home in their first game of the UCL group stage against Shakhtar Donetsk.

He had 25 touches , 14 accurate passes out of 18 total passes, two crosses and one clearance.

We pray he's not injured and taking him out was only a precaution.


5 Victor Osimehn (Napoli)

The Rave of the moment, Ballon do'r nominee and FIFA World Best Nominee was instrumental as his team won against Braga narrowly by an 88th minute own goal in their opening game of the UCL.

Osimehn was the one who provided the assist for the first goal after which it was cancelled by an 84th minute equalizer Before an error from the Portuguese side gave Napoli the victory .

The Nigerian Forward who has been tipped to become the next African Footballer of Year had a total of 43 touches , 9 total shots (4 was blocked, 1 hit the woodwork), won 6 Aerial duels and lost only 1 , had 2 dribble attempted and succeeded both times.

Definitely we can say he continued from where he stop last season.

The game ended 2:1 in favour of Napoli.


6 Sadiq Umar (Real Sociedad)

Coming back from an head Injury ,his presence could not secured the victory for Real Sociedad as they conceded a late goal to draw at home to the Italian giant Intermilan in the UCL.

Although he was brought on in the 72nd, He played just 18 minutes and had 10 touches , was dispossessed 3 times , lost two (2) Aerial duels and had no shot.

it was glaring he's still recovering , hopefully he recovers quickly to be back to the form he had last season before the injury.


7 Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen )

The Bundesliga Player of the month for the month of August continue in his goal scoring form as he had a goal and an assist in his Europa debut for Bayer Leverkusen as he helped his team to a Comfortable 4 nil victory at home to Hacken in the Europa League.

He had 39 touches , 5 total shots , 11 accurate passes out of 16 Total passes and 2 Chances Created.

Man was phenomenal on the night , he played for only 71 minutes.


8 Igoh Ogbu (Slavia Prague)

The Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back  for Slavia Prague was the man of the match as Slavia Prague won 2:0 away from home in their opening game against Servette in the Europa League.

He scored the second goal for his side on the night

he played 90 minutes and had 49 touches , 24 accurate passes , 2 tackles , 7 recoveries and 9 clearance.

he was phenomenal on the night and we hope Jose Peseiro is taking a closer look.


9 Troost Ekong (PAOK)

The Nigeria Captain who just joined the Greek side PAOK from Watford after he spent second half of last season on loan at Seria A club Salernitana played the whole 90 minutes as PAOK came from a goal down to win 3:2 away against HJK Helsinki in the Uefa Conference league.

Although he conceded a penalty by handling the all in the box in the final stage of the match, we cannot remove his tremendous effort in the team on the night.

He played for 90 minutes and had 55 touches, 5 accurate long balls , 46 accurate passes out of 52 total passes, 5 recoveries, 1 shot (hits the woodwork).


10 Bright Osayi Samuel (Fenerbahce)

Bright Osayi-Samuel (born 31 December 1997) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Super Lig  club Fenerbahce

He had a wonderful performance as his team defeated Nordsjaelland 3:1 in their opening game in the Uefa Conference League

He played for 90 minutes and had 71 touches, 51 total passes , 45 accurate passes, 2 recoveries, 1 tackle, dispossessed twice and had two dribbles succeeded.


11 Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)

Ademola Lookman Olajade Alade Aylola Lookman (born 20 October 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Serie A club Atalanta.

Atalanta won their first game in this year's Europa campaign against Rakow Czestochowa with a 2 nil score line .

Although Lookman did not score nor assist , he still had a great performance in the game

He played for 76 minutes , had 53 touches, 26 accurate passes, 2 chances created,5 Total shots , 2 big Chances missed.
