How Super Eagles Rate Vs Sao Tome in Uyo

GAANT FOOTBALL rates how Super Eagles performed in the big win over Sao Tome and Principe in a final 2023 AFCON qualifying game today in Uyo.

Francis Uzoho 6.5

He came in for Adeleye after missing the previous game through suspension, he was on holidays for the entire duration of the encounter that was dominated throughout by Nigeria. He will be confident to keep his place ahead of the World Cup qualifiers that will start in November against Lesotho.

Bruno Onyemaechi 7.5

The Portugese league table topping Boavista left back looked assured on his debut in possession and he attacked a lot more in the second half. He is a good option in this position. it will be interesting to see if he keeps his place in the team when Zaidu Sanusi returns to the team for the World Cup qualifiers.

Ola Aina 7

The dependable defender was full of energy as always and he combined very well with the midfield. He is full of industry and it will be interesting how he fares against direct rival Bright Osayi-Samuel at right back when he returns for the next set of games.

Semi Ajayi 6.5

This is one his easiest game in the Super Eagles shirt. An easy day in the office for the lanky West Brom central defence as the game was played in the other half of the pitch from start to finish. He started the last three games for Nigeria and he will look forward to keep his place ahead of AFCON in January.

Calvin Bassey 6.5

He paired Semi Ajayi in the central defence who was also not troubled as the Eagles laid siege on the Sao Tome for the entire duration of the game even though he bagged a needless caution. Bassey will look forward to cement his place in the team after not too impressive outing against Guinea Bisau in Abuja.

Wilfred Ndidi 7.5

Captain of the team for the day and did what was expected of him, he organised the team and hardly lose possession in the game, even though one would have expected him to contribute more upfront as the opponents did not pose a serious threat in attack. A lot will be expected from him in coming games.

Frank Onyeka 7

The Brentford midfielder paired the captain of the day in the game. The second defensive midfielder to start this encounter when one would have expected the coach to be more adventurous in the game that you expect to win. He was full of energy in the game.

Kelechi Iheanacho 8

He was given the licence to creative in the team as he was given a licence to play an attack of Osimhen, Awoniyi and Lookman. This is one of his best game in the colours of Super Eagles in recent times. He enjoyed himself in this role and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoreboard. He will look to keep his place in the team in the future despite suffering relegation with his club last year.

Ademola Lookman 7

He took the game like house on fire and scored a good goal and was always a threat when the Eagles surged forward again and again. He is not having good time in his club but is not really bothered based on his performance today.

Taiwo Awoniyi 7

He finally got his goal early in the second half to justify his starting spot. He is on a good run of form for his club.

Victor Osimhen 10

Nothing more to say about a player tipped to win APOTY

execellent performance
