Iheanacho's Hat-trick helped his team secure a comfortable victory

A hat-trick from Stanley Iheanacho helped FC Midtjylland U19 secure victory against AC Horsens U19 in a highly intense match with many duels in the Denmark U19 Championship.

Iheanacho who was a member of the Golden Eaglets squad to the 2021 WAFU Zone B Tournament which served as a qualifying tournament for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations joined FC Midtjylland earlier this year on a five-year deal that will keep him at the Jutland outfit until the summer of 2028.

The defending U19 champions took on AC Horsens on Saturday afternoon - just like the U17s. With many new faces, both in the starting line-up and on the bench, and with a competent AC Horsens team that finished in the top half of the table last season, it was set for a good match.

FC Midtjylland U19 showed up with physicality and intensity, and after 27 minutes of play, the oldest academy team got value for their efforts. Alamara Djabi turned nicely in the middle of the field and found the left back, Daníel Freyr Kristjánsson. The Icelander then sent Stanley Iheanacho deep and the Nigerian shouldered the ball and slotted the ball home on his second touch.

Shortly into the second half, the visitors brought balance to the account. Jashar Beluli received the ball on the edge of the field after great work by younger brother, Jetmir Beluli. The elder Beluli brother opened up the angles with a sharp move into the lane and then sent the nets fluttering. 1-1 after 52′.

Ten minutes later, Stanley Iheanacho put the home team in front again. Goalkeeper Christian Rust initiated a change with an excellent draft. The ball ended up with Iheanacho, who played a one-two with Christian Jørgensen, before the 18-year-old striker got into a duel with the keeper. Iheanacho was brought down by the onrushing keeper and today's referee pointed to the spot.

It was the striker himself who took care of the kick from the penalty spot. He did that safely and kicked the home team 2-1.

Just seven minutes later, Iheanacho completed his hat-trick. Alamara Djabi, Mikel Gogorza and Sofus Johannesen combined well through the visitors' defense before Stanley Iheanacho was played in the sky at the back post and poked the ball the final distance over the line.

An eventful month for the new Nigerian striker, who earlier in September scored four goals in his first match for the first team in the Oddset Pokalen against Aabenraa BK.

Allan K. Jepsen: A solid performance

Nothing more happened, and thus the oldest academy team secured three important points, which head coach Allan K. Jepsen was satisfied with.

  • "Horsens are not an easy opponent, as they bring a lot of physicality into the matches and are generally difficult to play against. I am satisfied with what we delivered in terms of the game, but what I focused on with the boys is the mental performance we delivered. We had many new ones with us, just as there were also a few changes in the starting line-up leading up to the match. It was really strong that everyone just went in and performed".

The head coach also had words of praise for Saturday's hat-trick hero, and at the same time expressed joy at the way he has landed at the club.

  • "Stanley is just a nice boy who wants to improve for everything in the world. He will still fluctuate in performance, which is natural for a young player in a brand new country. Last weekend against Lyngby he didn't deliver so well, but today he scores a hat trick. It says a lot about his character, says Allan K. Jepsen in conclusion".

The next match for the oldest academics is already on Tuesday, when Sønderjyske hosts the EDC Arena. The match starts at 14.00, and there is free entry for anyone interested.
