Transfer: Nigeria player joins Ajax

Gaant Football can exclusively reveal that former England youth international and last season Championship top scorer, Chuba Akpom will join Ajax pending the completion of his medical next week.

Akpom does not feature in Boro's matchday squad at Coventry City, and in his pre-match interview with Sky Sports, Carrick has confirmed that Boro have had formal offers for the forward, who has entered the final year of his current contract at the Riverside.

A deal had been agreed between Lens, Middlesbrough, and the player. According to L’Équipe, the deal was worth around €11m, with a further €2m in add-ons. Akpom was set to undergo his medical with Lens on Monday in light of the agreement, but at the last minute, the Ligue 1 side have pulled out of the deal.

According to Foot Mercato, the player’s representatives were concurrently in negotiations with Ajax, which didn’t sit well with Le Sang et Or. Unwilling to be dragged into a bidding war, Lens have therefore exited discussions, and it is now likely that they will explore alternatives.

Ajax later reached agreement with Middlesbrough to sign Chuba Akpom. #Ajax set to pay #Boro fee of €12m + €2m add-ons. 27yo striker given permission to travel to Netherlands & undergo medical tomorrow before putting pen to paper on 5yr contract @TheAthleticFC.
